The Growing Literacy Curriculum Guides provides teachers of children ages 3 to 5 with an exceptional set of weekly guides inclusive of the preschool standards of most states. A thematic approach is used to facilitate children's mastery of relevant content knowledge and includes themes identified by preschool teachers and curriculum experts as appropriate and valuable for preschool children. Language and literacy skills include those identified by national panels and agencies as appropriate preschool skills. These skills, such as alphabet knowledge and phonological awareness, are sequenced across the year, beginning with easier skills and moving to move advanced skills. Content is also sequenced for math skills and social skills. Teachers who are interested in only selected Growing Literacy Curriculum Guides will find excellent thematic content in book choices, art, and other center activities.
In 1971, Leah Curry-Rood and Larry Rood, guided by a respect for the work of teachers and parents of young children, started a company called Gryphon House, which began as a distributer of quality children's books. In 1979, Gryphon House expanded the business to include the distribution of teacher resource books. Gryphon House became a publisher in 1981. The company published two books that year. One of the original books, Bubbles, Rainbows, and Worms, is still in print. Currently Gryphon House has a backlist of nearly 200 titles, including beloved authors like Pam Schiller, MaryAnn F.
